Unique Approach Family Therapy
"Family unity is not about being on the same page at the same time,
it's about being in the same book and working towards the same ending."

My Services
Family Therapy
Are you having challenges connecting with your family? Do you seem to argue during most interactions? You may cycle through the same conversations repeatedly, as if you're not truly hearing or understanding each other. At times, it feels like you walk on eggshells because you want to avoid conflict. You think to yourself, "it's not a matter of if, but a matter of when" in regard to that conflict.
It doesn't have to be this way in your home all the time. There is hope for every family and individual. Most often, families want the same outcomes, yet they express them differently. I will work with your family to discover new ways to communicate. I have worked with families with intensive needs for 11+ years, and I use my skills as a certified Strengthening Families trainer to strengthen family bonds by helping families learn to have love and set fair, firm limits. My goal is to help each member of your family know that their role is important, and to help everyone gain the skills to navigate conversations that allow each person to connect, feel heard, and be understood.
Individual Therapy
Do you find yourself not feeling like you fit in with your peers? Do social interactions seem like work, rather than a fun time? Are you struggling to enjoy the things that you used to, and you're not sure why you feel the way you do? Believe it or not, many feel the same way.
I have helped so many people navigate similar challenges for various reasons. Through therapeutic rapport building and learning skills, you will be empowered to make changes in your life that make you happy. I can support you in uncovering the answers to the questions you are seeking.
Parent support
Do you have a child who struggles with mental health challenges? Do you ever feel like you don't know how to help, and it is your fault that your child is struggling? Do you want to understand mental health better, and most importantly, how to help your child? I was there too, asking all these questions and really questioning my ability to parent.
Through my work in the mental health field and education, I gained the knowledge to understand my role in supporting my child and to set boundaries that allow my child to be more independent. I learned that I can separate the feeling of blame and focus on the best ways to support my child. You too can reach a better place with your child and learn how to support them. Your relationship will become stronger, and your child will feel supported by you and be able to come to you when they need to.
About me
My name is Tamara Booker, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, a Child Mental Health Specialist, and a Certified Peer Counselor. I primarily provide family therapy in Richland, WA, and I am licensed in Washington and Oregon. I am also open to working individually with youth ages 14 and up, as well as parents or caregivers who need additional support.
I graduated from Eastern Washington University with my Master's degree in Social Work. I worked for Lutheran Community Services for 7 years, where I supervised Youth and Family Peer Support Specialists for the Wraparound with Intensive Services Program. I previously served as a Family Peer Support Specialist and Lead Care Coordinator at Lutheran as well.
Participating in the Wraparound program with my own family before working at Lutheran has allowed me to relate to families and the challenges they face. Continuing my education and experience working with families from many cultural backgrounds have helped me support families in highly individualized ways. Drawing on my social work values, work experience, and lived experience, I love helping families see their strengths, strengthen their bonds, and increase communication. I support families by providing psychoeducation and therapeutic support to build new skills and overcome challenges.
My hope is for families to find their purpose in life, both together as a family and as individuals. I believe that it can be difficult to move forward in the world today without connections. I believe that if we have the support of others who truly understand us, we can accomplish our goals in life.
